Steam and Fertility

Women who have experienced infertility have reported that they were able to become pregnant after beginning a regular steam treatment.

Yoni steams and Postpartum recovery

Steaming is recommended immediately once a mother stops bleeding bright red blood postpartum.

After a woman gives birth her body must shed the superficial mucous membrane that lines her uterus during pregnancy; therefore she will have discharge consisting of this membrane, as well as lochia, for weeks.

Yoni steams are a gentle way to assist healing for the new mother, as well as a way to fully cleanse the womb space. It has been reported through anecdotal evidence that mothers who steam immediately postpartum experience

  •  vaginal discharge/lochia completely disappearing at a faster rate than those who don’t steam.
  • their uterus shrinks and goes back into place at a quicker rate.
  • Resolved vaginal prolapse.
  • Speedy recovery of any vaginal tearing from birth.

By steaming postpartum you are enabling the steam to gently heal any birth injuries, as well as cleanse your womb space and vaginal canal.

According to a recent study of postpartum women using vaginal steam to facilitate healing the findings of this study show that vaginal steaming has a positive impact on many of the indicators of postpartum recovery, particularly in the areas of lowering blood pressure and pulse, uterine restoration, initiating and expediting waist girth and weight loss, labia healing, the quicker cessation of uterine bleeding through drawing out lochia, alleviating suture discomfort, promoting bowel regularity and hemorrhoid reduction.

Bengkung Belly binding is the process of wrapping a new mom with a fabric measuring about 15-16 ft long from her hips to just below her breasts. This method of self care has roots in many cultures, & has been practiced for centuries.

The benefits that have been reported from belly binding include:

  • Breastfeeding support
  • The wrap makes it difficult to slouch which is common when breastfeeding.

  • Core support
  • Binding helps to bring the abdominal muscles back together & aids in repairing diastasis recti if present.

  • Lower back support
  • Strong core, strong lower back.

    Pelvic floor support

Aids in keeping those pelvic muscles together after naturally loosening during birth.

  • Emotional support
  • Belly binding is a form of self care for the new mother ~ honoring her, as well as wrapping her up to provide support & comfort.

  • Physical support
  • Binding aids the organs & uterus in returning back to their position pre birth, as well as assists with the dispelling of postpartum bleeding & lochia loss with the constant, gentle pressure.

  • Postpartum waist girth
  • The pressure from the wrap assists in ridding any water retention or swelling postpartum, as well as providing shape & support for the body.

Binding can begin as early as day 4 postpartum & continued for up to 40 days or longer. The process of binding would include an in home visit where the abdomen will be gently massaged, followed by comfortably wrapped. I will demonstrate how to do the wrap both to your spouse, as well as to you, so that way you’re able to confidently wrap in the future.

Belly binding provides physical, as well as emotional support for the new mom. It is a sacred art that is perfect for honoring the new mother and her body; she will feel supported as well as nurtured after each wrap session.

Placenta Encapsulation, done in the Traditional Chinese Method (TCM), is the process of steaming the placenta over warming herbs & spices, followed by dehydrating it and then grinding it into a fine powder and encapsulating it in vegetable based capsules. According to TCM the heating of the placenta is thought to increase warming, yang energy, in order to balance the cold, yin energy, that is prevalent postpartum.

*Certified in Blood Borne Pathogens through

OSHA (Operational Safety and Health Administration), so you can have the peace of mind that your placenta is processed with the highest professional standards of cleanliness and safety.*

Reported benefits that women have include:

    • an increase in milk production,
    • improved happiness in their mood,
    • decrease in postpartum depression or baby blues,
    • and an increase in energy levels
The placenta contains a plethora of healing stem cells, as well as a large amount of iron. It is a nutrient powerhouse and consuming it allows for the new mom to replenish her body postpartum and strengthen herself from the inside out. Here at Nettles Herbs we take this one step farther by adding in nutrient dense herbs to the final capsules ~ such as organic nettle leaf, which is a blood cleansing herb that is full of essential vitamins and minerals.
